AHEPA & Greek Orthodox Church

I. Greek Orthodox Church in America

(Greek Orthodox Church pictured is St. Demetrios in Seattle, Washington)

We at G.O.B.C. want to extend our special thanks and sincere appreciation to Fr. Photios Protopresbyter of St. Demetrios in Seattle, WA USA for boldly backing efforts of G.O.B.C. by publishing our article on Post Civil War Greek orphans in “The Orthodox Way” newsletter. As Director of G.O.B.C. and a long time member of Saint Demetrios, I am grateful on a personal level to Fr. Photios for his proactive stance. We hope that his initiative will serve as a role model to the leaders of the Greek Orthodox Church to join the ranks of G.O.B.C. in providing a voice for Greek orphans.

June, 5 2007
After years of trying, G.O.B.C. finally in May, 2007 convinced St. Demetrios of Seattle, WA to show honor to Post Greek Civil War Birth Mothers in church service. On June 2007 Parish Council of St. Demetrios gave G.O.B.C. an official statement and the churches official position. of absolutely no interest in helping Post Greek Civil War Birth Mothers, or their orphan children here in America “now, or in the future”. Archbishop Metropolitan Gerasimos and Archbishop Demetrios concur.

Week of January, 23 2006 G.O.B.C. was given a promise by Archbishop Demetrios to open a dialogue for the purpose of showing compassion and interest towards Post Greek Civil War Birth Mothers and their orphan children that were scattered here in America.

As of July 2007 we hope that someday soon Archbishop Demetrios will keep this promise to G.O.B.C. as the leader of the Greek Orthodox Church in North and South America.

October 2006 Archbishop Metropolitan Gerasimos (former Archdeacon to the Archdiocese) came to Seattle, WA to meet with the Director. Archbishop Metropolitan Gerasimos gave word to accept all of G.O.B.C.’s proposal on how the Metropolis of San Francesco can join G.O.B.C. and show compassion and interest in Post Greek Civil War Birth Mothers and their orphan children that were scattered here in America.

II. AHEPA
We extend our thanks to AHEPA for joining G.O.B.C.’s humanitarian efforts on behalf of Greek orphans.

Although I am not an Ahepan , I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Seattle AHEPA chapter #177 for publishing my article in the July-August issue of “The AHEPA Mentor”. The article was an historical account of the post Greek Civil War orphan’s plight. In August, District #22 which covers AHEPA chapters in the Washington and Oregon regions, voted to accept our written proposal to assist Greek orphans in locating their birth families through the G.O.B.C. Orphan Profile Extended Network (OPEN).

Our thanks also extends to the National AHEPA for accepting our written proposal to help Greek orphans using G.O.B.C.’s Orphan Profile Extended Network. They are also publishing my article in their national newsletter. Finally their newsletter will provide advertising space to G.O.B.C. to promote the reunification efforts of adoptees and their birth families. AHEPA is the first Greek organization to openly and willingly advocate along with G.O.B.C on behalf of Greek orphans worldwide.
