BAKLAVA

16 x13.5 in. pan
2 lbs of filo dough
2 cups of crushed nuts
4 cups of sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
¼ cup of honey
1 stick of unsalted butter
2 tbsp of cinnamon
2 cups chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

  1. Clarify butter and let sit over night, removing foam from top
  2. Mix crushed nuts with 2 cups of sugar and cinnamon
  3. Butter bottom surface of 16 x13.5 in. pan
  4. Add a sheet of filo dough and lightly butter surface; repeat 8 times
  5. Lightly cover top sheet with sugar/nuts/cinnamon mixture
  6. Add sheet of filo and butter; repeat once
  7. Cover top with sugar/nuts/cinnamon/mixture
  8. Add sheet of filo and butter; repeat 8 times
  9. Lightly "mark" with a knife portions on top sheet
  10. Bake at 350 375 F until lightly brown
  11. Prepare syrup by mixing 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water; boil until slightly viscous; stir in honey and lemon juice
  12. Pour syrup over top
  13. Let sit for 24 hr
  14. Completely cut into portions
